Design this bedroom with me in an organic modern style.
This challenge came in from a blog reader and it, for once, had no furnishings here that had to remain. I’m used to adding final touches to rooms, making rooms relate better to other rooms in a home or even reworking layouts using existing furniture.
So, when I get a design challenge to start from scratch basically, I like it!

Color Scheme
Two major considerations we had to work with here are the very yellow golden oak floor and the small size of the room, basically a 10’ x 10’.
The first thing I’d recommend is paint, with walls, trim and ceiling in one color. I love this Gauzy White, it is a nice soft blush color.
It will be a nice complement to the golden oak floor and give us a start to this color scheme I have in mind….gold, blush and rust, very organic modern.
I would also love to have a new ceiling fixture here, something golden colored, to echo the floor. This textural shade has a nice organic feel.
Start with the Bed Wall
We will be putting the bed on the wall to right to leave some space for the wall heater.
She wanted a queen sized bed, so I found this upholstered one that I liked for this space.
I like the round upholstered legs that aren’t too skinny and how the frame around the bed is not thick like so many “organic modern” looks these days. We can’t afford any extra inches here.
Fully upholstered beds like this are so nice in a small bedroom, because you WILL be bumping your shins against the bed. Having it upholstered as opposed to wood there feels much better. :-)
Next comes the nightstands, she could fit two if needed, or she could just do one and leave a little room on the window side to make the bed, maybe about 18”.
This nightstand is 24” wide, so a good size with some storage drawers. I love the wood finish as it relates to the floor. It makes that floor look like a totally intentional design element now.
The nightstand is so good with this dark rust-colored lamp. The lamp just adds some richness here.
Next is some art or decor for over the bed. Nothing screams organic modern to me more than macrame. This isn’t really macrame, but it is a textile piece that adds some softness to this room.
I do like bringing the blush color to the bedding, and this blush/terracotta look is so inviting.
Extra pillows???? Yes, please.
Do you see how the color scheme is coming together now?
Dresser Wall
Now we need storage. I like this dresser with the caning on the front. It has a similar light wood color as the nightstand and floor.
This lamp is the epitome of organic modern and brings in the rust color to this side of the room. I like the idea of a few floating shelves too, above the dresser.
I’d love to add a little stool and a full length mirror beside the dresser. These below are nice.
This rug adds softness and is the perfect organic modern look for this room.

More and more these days, people have their only dining space right by the kitchen, as formal dining is not used as much. Such was the case with this home.
The kitchen is getting a remodel here, so the homeowners wanted to make sure their dining room wasn’t left out of the new, elevated look they would achieve with their redo. Come and see what I proposed…..
