While I love answering specific design and decor challenges, I really love having a little design freedom to put together a decor storyboard in a certain style, without many parameters.
I recently had my Instagram Subscriber group submit a couple of aesthetic styles to inspire me and get the creative juices flowing. They had to be a two-word type aesthetic and could marry any kind of style choices they wanted.
The style for this one was Modern Rustic.
This style is a little typical these days, so I thought I would narrow it down some by starting with a piece of art.
I love the work of artist, Scott Kerr, and have used his art in one of my project’s great room.
He recently published this one on his Instagram profile and I thought it captured the Modern Rustic theme perfectly.
I love the green and the dark caramel tone here. This green is so popular now.
The weathered look it has suggests that rustic vibe and the strong black contrast has a modern feel.
I wanted a little mid-century vibe in there without really going vintage and I wanted to pull out the green as a strong color statement.
I like light, neutral upholstery here and beautiful wood elements to add in a rustic vibe. A bit of strong black always works well too.
This lamp is tall and has a vintage shape. Replacing the standard white drum lamp shade with a taller, textured version gives it a more vintage vibe.
I like both of these pieces as they are modern and have some nice texture with the materials used too.
Here it is, all put together.
FOYER IN MODERN RUSTIC STYLE
I also thought I would put together a foyer or entry hall space in this Modern Rustic vibe.
A capsule shaped, upholstered bench is definitely modern. The art has a rugged look and brings in the warm tones. That wallcovering is made of cork and has a cool texture with gold hatch marks on top. It combines texture with a luxurious look.
A woven jute rug and a cool pendant finish out this space.
I wanted these rooms to have a level of sophistication and an on-trend vibe while creating a rustic, casual feel.
