I love when my some of my fave former clients come back for a final room to finish their home. This “Mod Coastal” bedroom was just the perfect fit!
I worked on their whole house remodel, starting several years ago, that was under construction during lockdown. As we were coming out of that, they decided to furnish almost the entire house, leaving one room that they would do later, their primary bedroom.
I have all the pics from the other parts of this home linked at the bottom of this post, so you can check those out.
This client likes a mod look and we used blue as a major color direction in other parts of their home. I wouldn’t say they are minimalists, but they are not into fussy, cluttered looks.
I really liked leaning into the mod element here with the gold fabric on the bench, the pattern on the big lumbar pillow. The warm wood chest was another mod look element that added warmth and height to the room.
I went for a softer blue-green to work with the paint color we did on their walls in there when they first moved in.
Here was my storyboard originally.
I really wanted to do these tall wood capsule mirrors, but they had been discontinued and all I could find was metal finish ones. I felt like that wall needed some more color, so these art pieces were just perfect.
That vintage look rug combined the colors so nicely and is different from all the other rugs we have in the house.
I love the touch of wood on the upholstered bed and then the white on the nightstands. They have a coppery finish on the base that relates so well to the chest across the room. The amber glass lamps repeat the bench color.
I think it all just pulls together so simply and beautifully and is the perfect answer for the final touch to this home. :-)
I love when my clients trust me like this client did and take the first scheme I present. I did show them a second option with a slightly different scheme, using some of the same pieces but they went with this one.
They were fine with with the mirrors originally but went with my rec on the art. They were great to work with which I why I will always say yes to their projects!
I take only a limited number of full service clients these days but will have some room for a new project or two late in the year and in early 2024. I also prefer single room full service projects like this one, above, to whole house projects these days. Full service design is described in more detail here.
Check out my past posts on the rest of this beautiful home.

I’m finishing up sharing the photos of this project reveal with the family room, breakfast room and upstairs loft space today. Come and have a look!
