Have you been wondering when the pendulum was going to swing back to beige and warm color tones in home decor and design? When will we be done with gray?
Maybe you’ve been secretly wondering……“When will my travertine floor come back in style?” :-)
Maybe you never jumped on that gray train with your home, and you kept all those warm finishes and more golden tones all around you.
Maybe you were like me and just went with warm whites because it is clean, fresh and you can go any direction at all with it, no matter what trend comes and goes!
Well, today I’m going to suggest that we might be heading a little more into the warm beige tones in the next years ahead in decorating and design.
Heading Into Beige And Warm Tones In Home Decor
As a neutral lover myself, I’m rather happy about that. I love many gray tones, but shades of grays only, can leave me feeling rather cold.
I think I did a good job of sharing how to mix gray into your beige schemes in this post I’m linking to below. That happens to be my #1 blogpost ever, in terms of traffic, consistently. It was written quite a few years ago, originally back in 2013, after every design consultation I seemed to have started with this question……
… “How can I go gray in my home without redoing everything?”
Well, the good news is, that same approach that I introduced there, about how to bring gray into your all beige rooms, also works the opposite way, to bring beige into an all gray space!
That’s right! The same kind of combinations and blending of the two can work the other way around.
So, what is it with this shift from cool to warm tones in home decor? Is it just a temporary trend?
Beige to gray and now, gray to beige?
I think it has to do a lot with getting back to more texture in interiors and seeing the use of more wood tones again.
Painted finishes are awesome, but we have definitely seen a shift to more wood cabinetry in kitchens these days. Especially the very neutral look European oak, but lots of wood tones are seeing their way into more kitchens it seems.
This home with beautiful rift cut oak cabinetry in the kitchen and primary bath, has a modern feel with much warmth.
I think we are after that in our homes these days. Especially after staying home so much in our recent past! We want touchable, warm, cozy, not-so-dear finishes, fabrics and furnishings that live hard like we do.
I also think people like to have a mix, and not be so firmly planted into one look or another. We like for our spaces and furnishings to last and not feel like we need a total reboot every few years.
Now don’t go off in a huff, upset because you tore out all your beige travertine and put in wood floors. :-)
If you did, your house has so much more $$$$ value, no doubt, because it has a wider appeal to future buyers and wood is a product that can be refinished and stained as time and trends go by.
With beige travertine, you’re kind of married to that look. And with the pinkish tinge that many travertines have, it might prove a challenge to work with that travertine anyway. (Believe me, it can!)
Nor am I telling you to jump right on into a completely beige look right now either. I’ve actually never even been a fan of that all warm tone look anyway!
What I’m suggesting is that this is an opportunity to mix up your grays and beiges if you haven’t done so already.
If you happened to buy a new home and went in with lots of grays and they are starting to feel icy and cold to you, if you like some of the new looks coming out that I shared in my post on Decor Trends 2021, then you might like this news!
Mixing Beige Into Your Gray Interiors Is Not That Difficult!
I think it is safe to apply the same kind of strategy for injecting warmth or beige into your gray interiors that I shared in that past ever-so-popular post where we went from beige to gray.
So, have a read at this link below, and I’m sure you will see. It’s not that difficult and might create an even more layered, evolved style that you will love for years to come!

How do you go gray after being beige for all these years? How do you take your warm colored house that has beige or gold in it and introduce the cooler shades of gray?
