I love going dark with doors in a home to bring some drama. Especially if your home is all white or all one basic color, going with contrasting doors can create some interest and deliver some punctuation in a home.
Dark Painted builder grade Doors
I have done it in my own home. I used Sherwin Williams Black Fox for my interior doors. It’s a nice warm black. It made my builder grade, hollow core doors look a lot more impressive and expensive.
They really worked well in my kitchen area, with the dark limestone tile floors.
Craftsman Style ebonized doors
We went with a dark, ebonized stain in this home’s remodel with a craftsman style real wood door.
Modern Look, Black Painted Doors
These contemporary look doors in The New American Home, during KBIS 2022, added a very sleek look to the interior of this home.
Modern Shaker Style dark painted Doors
The doors were all painted black in this home I toured several years ago in Vegas, when attending the National Kitchen and Bath Show there.
This showhome, designed by Bobby Berk, was a more modern look, designed for younger, millennial buyers. I think the black doors look sharp.
Traditional Style Dark Painted Doors
This past fall, I visited the Aspire Showhouse when attending High Point Market.
Kristen McCory had these dark doors in her beautiful bedroom upstairs. I think it added some richness.
Contemporary style stained wood barn door
In this showhome tour I did at KBIS 2019, The New American Remodel, this dark stained barn door made a dramatic impact.
UPdating A Tired, Old Paneled Door
In this remodel of a young bachelor’s first home, all we did was paint this front door to achieve a dramatic, upgraded effect. Check out the before and after, below.
While this isn’t for every home or style, I think it works especially well for homes with all white or light paint colors and trim. It can work for a more modern look or even in traditional homes. It looks great in a modern farmhouse type style too.
What say you? Would you do a dark door?
