While it is great to see new design products in person at trade shows and markets, it is even better to see them used by designers with real expertise in person. In my recent Pasadena Showcase House of Design tour, I noticed some of these products and design trends that you might want to consider in your next project.
Let’s see what design takeaways I noticed that you could be considering.
1. Wallcovering in every room
We know designers love wallpaper and layering in finishes, but it was really apparent in this lovely home tour. Grasscloths, bold florals, geometrics, textures…all these were used effectively and in the same room in some occasions! Whether it is used wrapping all the walls, inside a bookcase, within paneling or on the ceiling (seen on down the post) using wallcoverings to create interest is definitely on trend.
This large scale, organic patterned grasscloth was featured in panels in the family room designed by Tocco Finale Home. Pasadena Showcase House of Design 2022.

Wallpaper in the laundry room….YES! I’ve had so many people worry about wallpaper in bathrooms and laundry rooms, but when the rooms are ventilate properly, there is no reason to fret. Designer: Denise Bosley Interiors, Pasadena Showcase House of Design.

This paper was used in the 3 different colorways in 3 different small rooms in the cabana. Such an interesting way to weave these rooms together but not exactly duplicate. Pasadena Showcase House of Design 2022.
2. Bistro shelving
I hope all my clients are seeing this post because I’ve introduced bistro shelving to several of them and I want them to see how these designers have incorporated this popular look into these rooms. It’s such a light-weight looking option to floating shelves or open cabinets. I like how it just helps add layers in to the spaces.
I loved these I found at KBIS and can’t wait to see some of the ones I’m proposing installed.

3. Don’t ignore your ceilings!
Well, this was certainly a stand out for me. There was not a plain white ceiling to be found! They all had some kind of special treatment…coffers, paneling, wallpaper or painting, it was a real treat to see how the ceilings completed each room’s design.
