How I love a nice console with accompanying decor at an entry hall or foyer wall!
A console table with lamps, a mirror, stools or a bench, a few well-chosen accessories styled to perfection, can be such a lift to a home. They give a nice personal style statement at the entry and make a home feel tidy, designed and welcoming, even if there is clutter beyond!

Now that many are contemplating getting back out there in the world and perhaps considering doing some entertaining later in 2021, maybe this would be a good time to give your entry hall foyer or that big blank wall a refresh! After all, it would be nice to welcome family and friends to a change in your decor, right?
This isn’t a huge project, it is doable, and perhaps just the right size for the moment. It’s not that overwhelming.

Console walls are great for places other than the foyer or entry hall.
I used two consoles butted together with a single quartz top to make a larger console for this oversized wall space in the SL Designer Showhouse living room. The large, dynamic art piece and slick, chunky lamps add weight and fill the space nicely here.

Consoles flanking fireplaces
In this post on tall wall dilemmas, the homeowner did not have any built-ins beside her extremely tall, narrow fireplace. The open bookcases made that wall appear a little cluttered and busy.
Consoles with tall mirrors are a nice touch. In this case, I recommended a 72” high antiqued mirror, which is like a floor mirror size, above the beautiful consoles, to relate to the height of the wall.
Problem wall - a super tall fireplace wall that needs some design attention.
Cladding part of the wall in a stacked stone brings the eye down while elegant consoles with tall mirrors create a simpler style that doesn’t feel so cluttered and busy. Carla Aston - design sketch
This console and tall mirror work beautifully in front of stacked stone, flanking a fireplace.

Console wall in a hallway
In another post about filling a blank wall, I suggested this console combination, below.
The homeowner was considering putting a tv on this wall, but since it was in sort of the hallway/walkway type space, I felt this solution was better. The tv was best kept over by the fireplace in this room.

Console on a wide, empty wall space
This homeowner contacted me for help with what to do with this wide wall space after seeing all my wall decor posts online. This is a big wall in a big room, like a rec room of sorts, that was on the floor below the main floor of this house. There is a bar, a large seating area and dining area in this open space.
What to do with this big, blank wall in a rec room?
Large, open rec room type space on the lower floor of a home, below the main floor.
She had a gateleg style table in the room, between her two chairs there, and I thought it looked a little big for that location. Even though this is a large room, the table in that spot could be smaller. Even a 30” diameter (which isn’t small) would work better there.
Then she could use the gateleg, with one side down against the wall, as a console of sorts, on the long wide wall. She could put both sides in the down position, but there is plenty of room for the outside leaf of the table to stay up.
Lack of space is not a problem here!
She had two extra wingback chairs that she was going to get rid of and I suggested she use them to flank the table. A tobacco basket she had over in the corner could be hung on the wall.
Kind of a console wall idea, right?

Fast forward to a few weeks later - This homeowner sent me a finished pic of her wall. She placed other furniture she had there, smaller chairs and gateleg table, but these were also items she already had. It was the same idea, so it was nice to see the her end result!
Here’s the homeowner’s version of what I told her to do. I rather like the height that the wingbacks gave this combination and the scale of the bigger table, but that’s the beauty of these consultations. You can take my advice and do what you want with it, to make your own decisions. :-)
The homeowner’s finished area that was formerly a blank wall. It looks filled out and complete now! Kudos to her for getting this done!
Small spaces need furnishing too!
I have a project now where we’re replacing the homeowner’s small consoles with some new ones. She had the right idea to fill the two wall spaces on either side of her fireplace.
This new look is a nice update with a taller, more refined look. I love how the faceted top of the console echoes the shape of the mirror.
We’re simplifying the accessories with a single ginger jar on top of the narrow console.
This slim console with a narrow mirror above is perfect for a small space.
