I’m sharing a few more interesting finds and trends from my recent Highpoint Market trip. Today I’m talking color and upholstery trends I noted while visiting showrooms.
Color Trends
There are always lots of neutrals at Highpoint Market. They help to show off the lines and styles of furniture nicely and serve to not influence opinion about pieces based on color, which can always be changed.
There are also some bursts of color and believe me, when a showroom does color, it makes an impact.
Cinnamon / Terracotta / Rust
While I’ve noted this cinnamon / terracotta color before at market, it was the one that, to me, stood out the most.
The HIckory Chair showroom had this gorgeous banquette upholstered in a cinnamon / rust color with mauve-ish walls.
This color was a bit more cinnamon with soft peachy walls and white/gray furniture at Century.
These terracotta upholstered tub chairs from Ambella Home make a warm toned color statement.
More terracotta in the Ambella Home showroom.
Rusty warm colors contrast with navy blue in the Fairfield Chair showroom.
This terracotta linen covered chaise in the Cisco Home showroom was a trendy piece.
Rust colored upholstery in the Dovetail showroom.
Aubergine / Eggplant
This color was so appealing to me. I didn’t see it much, but I think this could be a new up and coming trend.
Aubergine or eggplant can be such a dramatic look and adds so much richness to a room. I saw it on walls and these two were my favorite shades of this color.
I really loved this aubergine color in the Woodbridge showroom. It just sets off the paintedfurniture in the room and adds richness and style.
These colorful eggplant walls in the Gabby showroom caught my eye. I love how the blue chair works in here with it. The white beaded chandeliers really stand out.
I think once everyone has filled their homes with warm colors again (lol), then jewel tones might make a bigger comeback.
Upholstery Trends
In general, I thought there was less off-white “bouclé” fabric this time. Although, I may just be so used to seeing it everywhere at market that I didn’t see it. :-)
Off-White Bouclé Fabric Waning
I did see some colored bouclé, like in a few of the photos above, but that sea of textural off-white was not so evident in showrooms.
I do feel like there was more linen or linen-look performance fabrics upholstered on furniture. Maybe we’re headed to a little less of that heavy texture in the fabric department.
I do love the linen look fabric on this English arm lounge chair, Cisco Home.
I saw more chenille fabric used than I’ve seen in awhile. Maybe chenille booted out bouclé for awhile and it is due for a comeback.
Cinnamon chenille here in this vignette in the Century showroom.
This chenille covered sofa in the Dovetail showroom is textural without having so many nooks and crannies like bouclé can have.
Pattern on Upholstery and Furnishings
While the organic modern look was strong at this market which embraces a bulky, curvy simple look in upholstered furniture, there was a bit of patterned upholstery and some skirts.
These lovely chairs at Wesley Hall felt very fresh yet traditional.
Wesley Hall did not disappoint with these lovely patterned chairs.
This bold pattern makes a statement on a new chair from Mr. Brown Home.
Small patterns like this are popular these days on upholstery too, seen in the Julian Chichester showroom.
A plain white lampshade just won’t do anymore, patterned customized lampshades are in, for sure!
Skirted Upholstery
As you can see in some of my photos in this post, above, skirted upholstery is still around. I loved seeing these examples, below.
Skirted sofa from Gabby.
These eye-catching skirted chairs in the Modern History showroom looked smart.
A patterned fabric works well on this bed from Highland House. Note the cute pleated skirts on the stools too.
Leather Upholstery - Always in Style
Leather upholstery and faux leather is always well represented at market. Here are a few of those moments. You’ll see everything from a traditional brown leather to colors.
Love the honey color of this leather sectional combined with the flannel look stripe on the ottoman and the neutral patterned rug.
A pop of bold, green leather just makes this corner and brings out the color of the art.
These golden buckskin leather wingback chairs are timeless in the Wesley Hall showroom.
Well-made, handsome leather chairs never go out of style. Hooker Showroom
Steely gray leather on a light oak wood frame chair has a fresh look in the Woodbridge showroom.
Dark teal leather on chairs at Highland House.
This striking green leather settee would be an heirloom piece, for sure.
Pick a Sofa or a Pair of Chairs for Leather Upholstery
With the exception of the room full of brown leather chairs above (in a showroom display) you can see how leather is mixed in to rooms with fabric covered upholstery.
There are no leather sofa-loveseat-chair sets that take over the space. Too much leather all in one room is not such a good thing!
