“What are the best colors to use with terracotta floor tiles, if you want more color than just warm tones?”
This was a recent question from a reader and Designed in a Click client, who was dealing with the strong color from the terracotta tile flooring in decorating her home.
I pulled this color scheme combination together for a quick example and shared it on my Instagram profile to many likes and comments. :-)

Best Color Scheme For Terracotta Tile Floors
I really love the soft turquoise here as a perfect complementary color to that dominant terracotta.
Keeping walls in big open areas a neutral warm white, like SW Alabaster or some of the other warm whites on my go-to list, will brighten everything up and make it feel fresh.
Using the soft, blue-green turquoise as an accent in drapery, upholstery or even wallcovering is the best way to add some cool tones to the mix.
To me, this is a more modern and updated version of a jewel tone scheme, or even maybe a southwestern look.
Turning some of those rusty tones slightly rosy and then graying down the turquoise in a little bluer fashion, really makes this palette feel fresh, current and oh so cozy. :-)
A Project’s Color Scheme
I have a client that likes a coastal vibe, with some soft turquoise, warm wood tones, and off-white. We worked on her kitchen, here, and her dining room, powder bath and entry, here.
We installed a rug and some tables last week on that job, filling out the living room while reusing her existing caramel leather sofa.
We have a few more items to reupholster with pillows and accessories to add, but you can see how it is coming together.
It’s the same sort of color palette that I posted on Instagram and I have to say, I really love it.
So, I did a little scouring the internet for some items that would work in a home with this scheme, to share with you today.
I think it’s a winner. :-)
