This recent Q&A concerned a new outdoor deck that was large and open, ready for furnishing! This homeowner needed a layout and some furniture recommendations to help them figure out where to start getting this deck ready for easy, comfortable outdoor living.

This deck is large, 20’ x 24’, so I started with a sketch to figure out how the furiture would work.
They wanted a lounge type seating area and a dining table and chairs. They did not have any storage available for cushions anywhere, so these needed to be comfortable without cushions and able to be outside in all weather.
I liked the idea of having the lounge seating edge the deck on the far side away from the house. Lounge seating like this is inviting and pretty to see from the house. I’m always concerned about people scooting a dining chair back and falling off an elevated patio too. Let’s keep the dining table over by the grill.
Here’s the lounge furniture I found that had no cushions and looked to be comfy. I like the wood/wicker look for this sofa. That is not actual wicker but “bands of handwoven high-density polyethylene wicker”.
It comes in a chair too, so I’d do two of those, one on each side of the sofa.
This coffee table works well with the warm teak wood, it is a good outdoor brand, Summer Classics.
Since the deck seem very open and out in the direct sun, an umbrella might be in order, especially out on the far edge of the deck. This cantilevered one looks great .
I like the idea of a short wall of planters, these are 31.5” tall, on the side of the deck up to the side steps. With some tall plants, it could give a little privacy and screen out the look of the A/C unit there.
This dining table looks great and is expandable!
These dining chairs are Summer Classics again. I went with these aluminum just so that everything wasn’t the same material. These are stackable too, which is nice.

It’s not a bad idea to start designing your ideal outdoor living space now so it will be ready to go when spring arrives. I noticed there are some sales on some of these items too!
