I have been playing around with some warm gold color schemes for a project and I have to say, I think this is a fresh, updated look for 2022!
Gold is still alive and well (not to be confused with the Tuscan golds from 10+ years ago). These schemes are imbued with high contrast and some rich materials. No muddiness seen below!
Ooooo, this is so fun to move into a different kind of color scheme that has been a little out of style in the last some years. This recent project of mine got me thinking about warmer color tones and I’m so glad I did.
I think this is a perfect palette for warming up a cold month like January, so let’s take a look!
3 Warm Gold Color Schemes For Interiors
These 3 schemes I’m sharing with you today are buttery rich and mix grays and bronzes to bring high contrast and make these schemes feel current and up to date. :-)
Gold Color Scheme 1
The dark gray and gold metallic wallpaper started this one off for me. Then I paired a gold grasscloth, a graphic patterned charcoal velvet, a buttery ultrasuede and that fab hex porcelain tile with it.
I could see these finishes in a study, dining room, living room…..used so many ways.
Sources for most of these products are going to be linked at the bottom of this post.
Imagine that bold wallpaper, the white marble look quartz, polished brass fixtures, the tile floor and ebonized cabinetry in an elegant powder bath. :-) Yummy!
Gold Color Scheme 2
In this next gold scheme flatlay, I went more bronze to contrast with the gold color tones. The gorgeous antique glass tile sort of cued that up, followed by the drapery hardware where I love the idea of mixing dark bronze with a gold finish on the rings to show up that contrast.
A few warm caramels were a nice mix here too. I LOVE that bird print fabric and am using it in another colorway on a job. It would look great with SW Urbane Bronze trim on the windows.
I think keeping a strong contrast (dark bronze) with the gold, if you’re staying with all warm finishes, is key in helping this scheme feel more current.
Onyx stone counters in a butler’s pantry with that bronze glass tile as a backsplash and SW Van Dyke Brown as a cabinet color would be divine.
Add in some brass mesh screening in the panels of the cabinet doors with brassy hardware, a Jerusalem limestone floor and the gold grasscloth to the mix and you’d have such a handsome butler’s pantry!
Gold Color Scheme 3
Lastly, these gold tones here are paired with a lighter, cooler gray. This pet-friendly, budget conscious rug is cueing the color scheme, mixing gray with a soft, buttery gold.
I had a dining room in mind for this with silvery drapery and gold mesh sheers on a cool toned iron drapery rod with a crystal finial. I sort of love the idea of the whole room in a medium gray with a white washed table and then dark gray framed chairs. Brass lighting and gold toned upholstery on the seating would do a lot to warm up that cool environment.
Wouldn’t a soft gold be pretty on the ceiling then? Like that grasscloth wallcovering? Yes. Nice. :-)
That paint color is one of my favorite grays, SW Mindful Gray. It always seems to go with everything.
Notice I’m not thinking gold on the walls, except where there might be wallcovering. I just saw too much gold paint around here for so long…..I’d rather go dark or gray and then add in the warmth with fabrics and materials. And you can keep your yellow-ish trim and doors then too!
That makes for a lovely way to warm up a gray interior, by the way. :-)
An extra flatlay moodboard in black and cream
Oh, these fabrics and finishes just beg to be played with and arranged. I couldn’t stop and did one more that was coming out more cream and black.
I love the dramatic look and that faded golden trad rug paired with the black. This black paint color is SW Caviar and it looks great with some black marble and the dark grasscloth on walls. I would echo that creamy color tone of the rug on the ceiling and do the trim in Caviar.
