I've been working on several bathroom remodels and guess what seems to be top on the list for homeowners' showers these days?
STEAM!
I'm not the only one hearing about this. I just saw a design friend post on his Facebook page regarding bathroom design, "Steam shower or spa tub?"
The overwhelming response was steam.
Mr. Steam was one of our sponsors on this trip to KBIS2018 with Modenus' annual Blogtour. I was thrilled to be involved again this year with my KBIS ticket, airfare, and hotel being paid for by these amazing brands, Lixil (Grohe, American Standard, and DXV), Thermador, Mr. Steam, Metrie, Wilsonart, and KBIS. All comments and opinions expressed here are my own.
Steam for Health Benefits
When I went out to California to visit a new project before Christmas, I got to see my daughter for a few days who lives in LA. She just happened to come down with the infamous flu everyone's been getting while I was there.
I ended up staying a few extra days with her (luckily I had my flu shot this year). One night she was coughing so hard, even with her codeine cough syrup, she couldn't stop.
I spent many a night, years ago, dealing with croup that my son had as a young child. Our doctor told me to take him in our bathroom with the shower going full-on-hot so he could breathe the steam. That was always the only way to help ease the croup.
I put my daughter in the bathroom that night for the same thing. It did finally help her cough. Again, it was the only thing that worked.
Having a touch of something similar myself, around Thanksgiving, I know that nothing felt more soothing than standing in the hot shower breathing in the steam.
Winter, especially, is a perfect time of year for steam!
STeam Shower for wellness and luxury
Imagine having your own steam shower in your bathroom at home. It could be a daily ritual and luxury just for you!
The health benefits of steam are far-reaching and to be noted as we all try to live more healthy, active lifestyles these days.

Steam relieves symptoms of colds, flu, sinusitis, bronchitis, allergies, asthma, throat irritation, arthritis and more. Sore, tired muscles? Rigid joints? Steam eases the pain.

Here's a pic with a diagram of how a steam unit is installed. The unit can be hidden away behind a wall or in a cabinet.
They have simple, beautiful digital controls that are intuitive and easy to operate. You can even get your steam started from your phone!
Mr. Steam also carries towel warmers. You can even use aromatherapy for your heated towels. :-)
The Mr. Steam website is full of great info. They even have a "Try Us Out" feature, where you can type in your city and get locations of spas, hotels, or fitness clubs that have Mr. Steam showers you can go in and use yourself.

I can't wait to share the bathroom I've designed recently with it's fab steam shower. We're getting construction started on that remodel this month!
It will have beautiful marble tile with some mosaic marble tile banding. It's going to be such a special, luxurious retreat for these homeowners.
So, what say you? Ready for some steam?
