I’ve pointed out some of these interior design features in the past and yes, they are still holding strong. I saw them all over High Point Market and I have lots of examples today!
These all have their roots in a traditional design or Grandma Chic style, like I discussed in this overview of my recent visit to High Point Market.
Scallops
This is one decorative feature I thought might be waning as we’ve seen it for several years now. But no! It seems to alive and well. It is a nice detail, for sure.
The Wesley Hall showroom entrance was bedecked in scallops and a Grandma Chic aesthetic.
Here’s a pretty scalloped edge on a dining table in the Sherrill showroom. The table has a scallop shaped top as well.
Also in the Sherrill showroom, this pretty coffee table with a scalloped top edge.

A scalloped back bar stool has an interesting silhouette.
Fringe / Tassles
Fringe goes way back, but most recently I remember fringe from the Tuscan look era in the early 2000’s. Swagged drapery, tapestries, curly ironwork, you remember. The more fringe and tassles the better back then!
There is definitely a surge in using fringe these days, I’m not sure I’m a big fan as someone who prefers a more tailored, less adorned style. I do love a brushed fringe on a pillow though. :-)
A tassle fringe on the skirt of this traditional sofa contributed to a tradtitional style in the Chaddock showroom.
A bit of unlikely combo, gingham and fringe, but it works! Wesley Hall showroom
Check out the tassle trim on this ruffled tableskirt. Brush fringe on the pillow too. Hickory Chair
A floral tableskirt with fringe really harkens back to a Grandma Chic style, doesn’t it?

Skirts come in all shapes and sizes! Check out these tiny skirts on boxy velvet chairs.
I’m not sure I’m a fan of this puffy, fringed table skirt. This definitely feels Grandma Chic.
Lampshades w/ Patterned fabrics, color and trims
We’ve seen this coming on for some time now and a lampshade with color, pattern and/or trim is becoming the norm! Sadly, it means more money needed in a budget for lighting but it is a great way to spruce up some existing lamps in your home.
Designer Tip: Remember when you cover a lampshade or do a darker fabric, you may cut down on the light that emanates from the shade itself. Keep that in mind when considering lamp shades. A simple white linen look really gives off the most ambient light in a space.
This solid blue lampshade with tassle fringe was spotted in the Sherrill showroom.
Isn’t this a cute lampshade? I love the plaid and the scalloped look. Regina Andrew showroom
Pooky has really helped make this trend popular with their selections.
