Additional Wall Decor Adds The Finishing Touch To These Two Rooms

January 13, 2024 in Decorating, Reader Advice

The last finishing touches desired for these two rooms involved wall decor.

These questions came in during my last Q&A with my Instagram Subscribers. Check out the recommendations I had for them, below.

Dining Room Wall Decor

In this dining room, that I’ve published before, the homeowner updated with window treatments, a rug, paint and art on the main back wall. It was a big job and frankly, she really is done and doesn’t have to go further.

However, she passed this candle sconce in a local store and thought it might work on the tall, narrow white wall space in this room.

It’s a nice candle sconce, but I think it is just too lightweight looking for that tall wall and I don’t really like how it protrudes out. I think that tall wall needs something stronger.

Here’s what I recommended.

I like a stack of three or even four of these pieces. These will add some texture and contrast to that white wall.

I also suggested that she put a leaf in the table to make it feel a little larger in the room. Then she could add some taller, more substantial table decor there to break up the brown wood.

Something like these vases in a group with a few branches or monstera leaves could make a nice statement here.

Guest Bedroom Needing Wall Decor and Lamps

This cute bedroom needed some wall decor too. The homeowner also wanted some pin-up style lamps to mount above the nightstand.

I like the cottage look here with the painted furniture and shiplap wall.

If I was going to do two pin-up lights, I’d want to do two nightstands and they could be a smaller width than what she had. She could then scoot the bed over a bit toward the window.

I like going with a wood tone on these nightstands, to contrast with the other painted furniture and add some warmth.

Rejuvenation Hardware has a lot of pin-up type lights and this fixture would fit nicely here as it has a narrow shade.

Then, above the bed, I’d hang two little landscape pieces of art. Click on the image for sources. :-)

Here’s how it looks all together. Very charming!
