Do you have questions on a design or decorating project in your home? Maybe you’d just like to know someone is available once a month to bounce an idea off of when you might need it.
I opened up a subscriber group on Instagram about a year ago and I’ve gotten some interesting questions. They’re usually not quite big enough for a Designed in a Click consultation.
I do my Q&A once a month there, the first Saturday of the month. People can start sending their questions to me on Instagram in a DM, with some photos for reference, during the week. I publish answers that Saturday.
Usually it takes me the full day to get the answers done and up to view. They are live in my stories, viewable to subscribers only for 24 hours, then they are dropped into a Highlights folder that is for them only, to view later that month if they want.
Occasionally, I’ll publish them here on my blog, anonymously, usually in a grouping of similar design dilemmas or questions, so you have to be okay with that.
It is such a deal actually, if you just have a small one-off question, at $2.99 per month. Even if you just join for a few months, maybe during a project, I think it can be a valuable service.
I might not be doing these into 2025, but for now, my plan is to continue through 2024.
So I thought I’d include these two examples and then link to a few others I’ve published before, in case you had the need for something like this. My April Q&A is coming up soon over there, April 6th.
Breakfast Room Decorating Question
Here’s a question that came in regarding this breakfast room. The homeowner wanted to zhush it up a bit.
She saw this chandelier on sale and wondered if it would work in this space. It was a great deal, I’ve used that chandelier before in a dining room on a job of mine.
However, I don’t think this is the right expenditure to start with over in this breakfast room.
First of all, it is too big. Secondly, it is a little glammy with the polished nickel finish, as compared to the more cottage style furniture and kitchen.
Here’s how the advice showed up in my stories on Instagram.
Then I offered up an idea of where I think I would start to spend money in this space.
I shared some examples of my own projects where a window treatment of some kind really livened up a nook breakfast room similar this one.
Bathroom Mirror Question
Here’s a question that was submitted for a bathroom mirror problem. The builder had not centered the sink and cabinet, but had installed it to one side.
This was news to the new homeowner, who thought everything would be centered and selected a round mirror.
Now, it looks like a mistake.
She wanted to know what to do, so I gave her a solution.
They can do a small wood strip at the top to edge the mirror so it looks intentional and more finished. I did that on this project with a big slab mirror, below.

In my recent Instagram Q and A, questions came in regarding the interior decor of two different foyers. Both didn’t really need much, but come and see how evaluating scale and making a minimal change made a big difference!
