This home was just purchased and the homeowner wonders what to do with the long, blank wall. This is the living and dining space (the piano was the former owner’s) and she is worried about what to do with it.
This wall measures 20’ long x 10’ high. It looks a little distorted here, like it is even longer, because…real estate photos. :-(
It is rather bare though, especially with the kitchen on the other side, this wall feels a little ignored.
The piano is where the dining table will be. The living room with a tv, will be down at the other end.
Here is the furniture that the homeowner has for the dining room. She may or may not use all this furniture.
The best way to deal with this is to draw it up to scale, so I sketched up the wall.
You can see that I’ve drawn in furniture and it doesn’t look nearly so blank with the furniture in.
All this furniture is typical size and drawn to scale. Now, designing this blank wall is not such a formidable task.
I did like the buffet piece against that wall with the mirror above, as it will reflect the chandelier and the activity in the kitchen some, which will add some depth here. She was considering a built-in for the tv, but I’m not sure that is necessary and might even be a little heavy looking.
Instead, I prefer treating the whole length of the wall with some new applied trim moulding, much like I did in this tall stairwell.
I like the idea of wallcovering inside the moulding too, a grasscloth texture would be nice. Something like this, done in a dining room project of mine.
