I’m one of those holiday decorators that can just decorate all the way up to December 25th and still have some things I’d like to add. Decorating is never done, right?
I’m looking around my home now and wish I had a garland on my stair rail banister, but the lights didn’t work when I unpacked my big garland and I never got around to picking up more lights for it. :-(
I did get most of the way done though, and I’m sharing some photos here today. We have my two children here this holiday with their significant others and we’re picking up my MIL from Brenham for Christmas day here. It’ll be a fun holiday, with yummy food and lots of games.
I have pared the decor down in the past because we didn’t have everyone here or I was so busy with work, but since my workload has gone to almost all online consultations and blogging, I really wanted to pull out all my holiday decor and use what I could.
I’m a traditionalist when it comes to Christmas, I like red, green, gold and silver and some rustic elements too. I love all the old ornaments we’ve collected through the years, including my Santas and some prized snowglobes. We have ornaments from all over the world, especially Norway and Australia from when we lived there.
Traditonal Christmas Decor is IN!
I’m lucky, because traditional Christmas decor is IN this year, the more colorful the better.
Bows are so popular now. I’m not a really crazy bow person, but I always did love Martha Stewart’s droopy long satin ribbon bows from years past, and I did one on top of my tree this year.
I only decorated the downstairs, since I’m not doing much stair climbing yet, but my husband was glad about that. :-) He thinks I go overboard no matter what!
Here are some snapshots of my home ready for Santa. I hope you all have a lovely holiday and I want you to know how grateful I am you continue to read my blog and share your homes with me.
At the bottom of my stairs, this little English table we bought when overseas greets you with a rustic Turkish olive jar and a plant. This round wreath topiary just needed a satin bow for a Christmas touch. A few Santas made their way here too.
I love the ilex berries here on the ottman tray along with my new glassbaby candle and a stack of Christmas books.
That snowglobe was a gift from my son when he was really young, after we had been to Venice that year. We were back in the states, out shopping before Christmas, and he told his dad that was what he wanted to get me. I’ll be taking that snowglobe to the senior living center with me some day.
My home office received a little holiday decor this year, a colorful mini tree on my mother’s bar cart. My corner with the tall olive jar and branches received some of the wooden snowflakes I used last year when we were in Big Bear for Christmas.
The dining table is set with cream, gold and silver with a touch of brown and green. Pewter chargers from Norway, creamware, heirloom brass candlesticks and silver plate flatware decorate this year’s table.
Those wood snowflakes came in handy here too, as napkin rings, and TJ’s had amazing roses this week!
I’ve had these little wire gold angels for years and then any extra ornament or pinecone that is gold or silver is laid down the center of the table as a runner.
I had these glass ornaments left from my Showhouse room tree I did back in 2015 during the holidays. I have always loved them and wanted to put them in my bedroom this year as I’ve spent more time in there recently.
I was so glad to have my bedroom really finished out, with a new ceiling fan, gallery wall, new bench and pillows and the Frame TV, before I had my knee replacement surgery. This room became such a comforting place to recuperate.
I planted a few Amaryllis’ this year and had two blooms from one bulb already with more to open soon. They perch on my breakfast room plant shelves, along with some other holiday color.
As I’m looking at this photo below, I’m wishing again that I had changed out the tile around the fireplace this year. I have the limestone tile, I just need to get it done. It’s on my to-do list for January 2024, for sure!
I’ll be sharing more pics on my Instagram stories. I hope you all have a lovely, relaxing and fun holiday season! ~ Carla
