These 5 interior design trends showed up repeatedly in booths at KBIS, the kitchen and bath show, 2023.
I am not calling them just kitchen and bath trends because they are trends that I see in interior design with furniture and architecture too. They stood out to me this year as I was keeping an eye out for some of these as I walked the show floor.

1) Capsule Shape Trend
If you’ve never been to my blog before you might have missed posts from Highpoint Market where I have shared a few of these trends in the past. This is one I keep referring back to, the capsule shape.

This cool vanity has such a unique and modern look. A perfect powder room fit! KBIS 2023
Capsule shaped mirrors soften the edges of this rectangular vanity and work so well with the organic tile look from Ann Sacks. KBIS 2023
John Boos butcher block products don’t change much over the years but this year they added a capsule shaped butcher block top. KBIS 2023
Compac Surfaces had a real stand out piece, this capsule shaped terrazzo island. It was a real show-stopper. KBIS 2023
2) Tambour Paneling trend
Nothing wraps a capsule shaped cabinet better than tambour paneling!
There were a lot of tambour or “slatted” looks for both curved and flat surfaces. As I stated in an Instagram video….. I think we can officially call tambour, “in” for 2023.

One vendor, Designs of Distinction, even had this chunky metal tambour that they were introducing at this market. KBIS 2023
3) Green and Wood Cabinets
Green and wood cabinets have been popular for several years now. Officially stated with 2022’s Colors of the Year by several major paint companies, the greens seem to really appeal.
I do think that both green and wood cabinets are here to stay, possibly for the next 10 years. They’re just easy to live with and will go with anything.
Loved the mix of light and dark woods in this more traditional kitchen designed by Richard Anuszkiewicz in the Monogram Appliances booth. There’s a refrigerator behind that armoire look cabinet! KBIS 2023
I found this an interesting tone of wood, rather like a tobacco or maybe a honey oak color, from Parrot Cabinets.

Light oak and white is a nice classic look these days. KBIS 2023
These shades of cabinetry are popular and look great. KBIS 2023
I’m always a fan of a two tone kitchen as a way to bring some color into a space without going in everywhere. KBIS 2023

4) Metal Cabinets & Bistro Shelving
Metal cabinets and metal details in cabinetry are being seen more and more. Bistro shelving is also very popular as I mentioned in this post before. I was glad to see more of both at this KBIS.

These metal cabinet doors from Stoll Industries have a clean lined look. KBIS 2023
Love this cabinet, also from Stoll Industries, that sits in front of the backsplash tile. It’s like open shelving, but with less dusting. :-) KBIS 2023
I really love the thin look of the metal, but I really don’t think these cabinets look great with built-in strip lighting. The one pictured above, with just single lights in each section at the top of the cabinet, works much better in my opinion. The linear strips are just too distracting.
With wood framed cabinets you can hide the strip light much better, tucked into the inside face of the cabinetry. With these being so open, I’d opt for the single lighting above.
Love these metal cabinets but would prefer them without the linear strip lighting. KBIS 2023
Ever wonder how designers get those metal edge details on cabinet doors? This is one of those products, from Designs of Distinction. KBIS 2023

5) Workstation Sinks
These days, every kitchen sink vendor is hopping on this trend, workstation sinks. Whether they are 4 or 5 feet wide or just still 33”, the added options with a workstation sink can make cooking and cleaning up more organized and contained.
They run the gamut now, from high end polished looks to just a few added layers and options, all to make your cooking experience easier and more delightful.
Workstation sinks were everywhere at KBIS 2023 available in different materials, finishes and sizes. KBIS 2023

Check out my previous post, all about the color spread all over the KBIS show floor amongst many types of products and vendors. It is fun to see!
