I answered decorating questions in my subscriber group on Instagram this past weekend and today, I’m sharing 3 wall decorating questions I had, with their answers.

Question #1 - Wall Art
This subscriber had just gotten this piece of art and wanted to know if she needed something else on this wall. She was also thinking about framing it.
Although it looks a little lonely here, it won’t if some adjustments are made.
Center the sofa under the art on this wall and lower it about 4”-5”.
Use a bigger side table with a bigger, bulkier lamp to fill the corner better.
Get a tall plant for the corner by the window.
Yes, frame the art, with maybe a thin dark wood frame to have it pop off the wall a bit.
See how these pieces of art are done, floating in a frame? This is how I’d frame up this canvas. These beautiful paintings by Steven Graber were photographed at The Woodlands Art Festival a few years ago.
Adjusting the other things in the room and then framing the piece, will give the art placement a more intentionally designed look.
Question #2 - Wall Mirror
This subscriber liked her mirror but it seemed small on the wall with the high ceilings. She wanted to know what else to put here or if she should get something else.
First of all, lovely room! I do like the mirror, so I’d keep it but I’d hang it vertically, not horizontally. I always vote vertical on mirrors or I think they look like dresser mirrors.
That will give it more height and then she can add two of these candle sconces. I like the brassy finish and they are 26” high, so quite tall and substantial for the wall. They also work well with the decor style but aren’t too fussy.
Question #3 - Wall decor above sofa
This cozy family room needs some kind of decor on the long wall above the sofa.
The homeowner would like a mirror to reflect light in here because it is rather dark. She has sized on that is 53” wide on the wall with paper. (Good idea, BTW!)
She was concerned that the mirror could look a little plain and not provide enough interest on the wall too.
I totally agree with here there. Although a good idea, I think it would benefit this wall and room to have a little something more here.
This mirror is 16” wide and has a nice simple pattern that would provide interest. With three of them across, it would cover the wall nicely but not feel top heavy over the sofa.
I also feel it works well with the style of the room here.
I was so excited when she sent me these photos about a week after this Q&A. She is so happy to be completed with this project and loves the way they turned out. I think they look great!
