How to Decorate Empty Corners in a Bedroom

August 06, 2022 in Decorating, Furniture, Shopping, Q&A

This is something people struggle with a bit in decorating bedrooms, how to fill those empty corners.

Many times a dresser or storage isn’t needed as there is plenty of storage for clothing in the primary bedroom closet. Often, in a big primary bedroom, you still need furniture, other than a bed and nightstands, to make the room feel cozy and inviting.

You don’t want to sleep in an empty feeling space. You want your bedroom to be relaxing and comforting.

Also, if there isn’t purposeful furnishings used in those corners, then guess what it will get filled with?

  • Junk

  • Clothes

  • Unused exercise equipment

  • Leftover furniture that doesn’t fit anywhere else.

  • Ironing board

  • Laundry basket(s)

  • Pet kennels

You know what I’m talking about.

So, what do you fill those empty corners with?

That question came in during my recent Instagram Q&A for this vacation home’s primary bedroom with an ocean view. It was large and even with a king four-poster bed and nightstands, it needed more furniture.

Here’s what I’d like to see in those empty corners.

Especially since this is a vacation home, you want it to feel like a luxurious hotel room.

I’d like to see a seating group as you walk in the room. In this corner there is only one window here to the side of the corner, so the wall by the door is a great place for some statement art with a seating group in front.

I love the curvy furniture idea in this bedroom. I think it needs a clean look and the curves contribute to a comfortable vibe. I like the idea of doing more of the white and wood tone combination that is already going on with the bed and walls/ceiling too.

In the other corner, with two windows and the ocean view, I’d do a desk, angled in the corner. A unique chair and a lamp is just enough so that if someone does have to work from home here someday, it is ready to go!

Even if I don’t HAVE to sit here and work or do anything, I want to. :-)

It could even be a nice make-up table.

I’d add an upholstered bench at the end of the four poster bed to add softness to there and store extra pillows. A bench is always handy in a bedroom.

Plants always make good fillers too, as well as big baskets like these.

And here’s the furniture I recommended to work with this vacation home’s style.
