I’ve been thinking about some of the plumbing fixtures I’ve seen come out in the last few years, in the midst of this virus health crisis we are going through.
Some of these would really be handy, in light of our current events.
Two that come to mind are touch or touchless faucets and bidet toilets.

Touch or Touchless Faucets
Touch or touchless faucets (they are sometimes called that interchangeably by various manufacturers) are faucets that are either motion activated, voice activated or made where you can touch the device anywhere along the spout with the back of your hand, your elbow, or whatever, to turn the water on.
You don’t have to grab the handle and turn or lift.
Here’s an example of this in action with a Kohler faucet seen at KBIS this past year.
I’ve never been one to like hands-free anything, just because out in public settings they seem to malfunction so often. I mean, how many times have you waved your hand across a bathroom faucet in a public restroom or the towel dispenser, waiting for it to work!
However, with all the germy business happening now, I’m starting to look at all this with new found appreciation.
It’s no longer just about having raw chicken on your hands and needing to turn on the water at the kitchen sink without touching the lever.
It’s seriously becoming a good practice for hygiene and safety in the home! I’ve got links some good ones at the bottom of this post. :-)
Bidet Toilets
Never before would I have thought toilet paper would be something to hoard and store away.
Never before would I have thought this would happen at my local grocery store.
This even had my husband googling “bidet” after a few days.
Toto Washlet
A real leader in the bidet market has always been Toto with their Washlet.
I’ve been through seminars and presentations, seeing their products first hand at KBIS, and they have got this down.
Here are some of the articles I’ve written before after those visits, where I share a lot about what I learned.
PRO TIP - Even if you are not considering installing a bidet toilet like this anytime soon, when you get around to remodeling, you should install an outlet down by the base of the toilet, so that you will have electrical there for a future bidet attachment that enables use of WARM water. :-)
Now, there is even a hand-held model that you can travel with. If you’ve ever traveled in Europe, France namely……in the country, on the road, you would really appreciate having one of these in your pocket. :-)
There are other vendors for bidet toilets and bidet attachments too.
Kohler came out with an amazing “Smart” toilet at KBIS this year and then they also have a toilet/bidet and a bidet attachment that does not require electrical or batteries.
That means the water is kind of chilly :-), but if you’re just wanting to change out the toilet you have and not tear up the wall trying to install an outlet by the toilet, then this would work great.
I’ve got links below to a wide selection of touch / touchless faucets and bidet products.

My mother, who lives in an outlying suburb of Dallas, recently had a toilet overflow in her house.
