Before & After | A Remodeled Bathroom DESIGNED by Carla Aston

June 21, 2013 in Design Tours

We didn’t let Hurricane Sandy get in the way of this one.

Nope, not this project - the one where we found out that our desired mosaic tiles were stuck in a New Jersey warehouse that had flooding issues and wasn't capable of shipping.

Fortunately though, we found another way to get the tile we wanted, and it made a BIG difference in the design of this bathroom.

This was not a complete gut remodel.

We kept the basic cabinetry, some of the tile (which we cut into the marble tile floor to insert the mosaic), and even the shower enclosure.

It was what we didn’t keep that made all the difference in the world:

  • The wallpaper.
  • The lighting and mirrors.
  • The paint color. (We lightened and softened it up.)
  • The tub. (Because, as you will see below, a free standing tub is sculptural and beautiful and sooo on trend.)
  • The chandelier (capiz shells for a lighter, fresher feel)
  • ...Among other things.

Have a look ;-)

So...

How do you decide what to keep and what to discard in a remodel?

Ask ME. :-)

Note: That beautiful ceiling was done by Phyllis Palmer of Transformations. I’ve worked with her for years. She has great vision for creating the perfect finish, and has put together a team of artists that can produce anything my heart desires!
