A New Approach to Choosing Interior Design Clients

November 20, 2013 in Business

We can’t take everyone who walks in the door.

We just simply don’t have the time, though we’d love to.

However, any project we take on deserves our time and attention. And so when we get loaded up with so many projects that we’re hopping between each of them all the time and not giving them our best attention and having them get strung out too long, well….that’s not fun for anyone.

Although I have some awesome help around here, I’m still only one person.

And I basically manage, design, do the contract writing, the billing, the bill paying and write this blog. I’m kind of a control freak like that. I kind of have to do everything. With help.

I’ve had a lot of issues dealing with this, and I’ve tried to work on how to juggle everything and still be effective.

So I’ve come to the conclusion that I have to limit the number of projects I take on around here.

Now I analyze my opportunities, then choose which ones are best for me.

There are criteria for which I have to choose. There are financial reasons. There are type-of-project reasons. There are ease-of-working-relationship reasons. There are location reasons.

Most of all, however, there are end-result reasons.

When I analyze the project I’m going to spend my time on, I often look at the desired end-result. I look at projects where I can make the most impact, create the biggest change or do the most design. Projects that I can have photographed and hopefully published. Projects where I can bring the WOW.

Now an announcement: Free Friday Walkthroughs!

Here at DESIGNED w/ Carla Aston, we've developed something positive that I think will help make the process of acquiring projects and helping potential clients decide on using a designer, more fluid and open.

This coming January we’re debuting what we call "Free Friday Walkthroughs"!

On one Friday each month, we’ll schedule a one-hour walkthrough of your home or job site for free! We'll be able to meet each other, see your space, talk about your goals for your project, your budget, etc.. I can answer questions about how we work or how we can offer our services to meet your needs. Then we’ll see how your project can fit in to our business' schedule and get back to you within one week.

We think this is a great “no strings attached” kind of way for us to see if we "click".

Typically, our first-time initial consultations are $250 for a 1 1/2 hour visit and are scheduled at a time that’s good for you and our studio. So, by trying to get to people faster and make a project's operations a little more efficient, we think we’ve come up with a system that will help us see projects and get things moving sooner for potential clients.

So...

If you’re thinking of remodeling, redoing, revitalizing your interior, or if you’re starting from scratch...

Contact us today to schedule your Free Friday Walkthrough*!

UPDATE: FFWThroughs are not available at this time - Jan 2017 to ?? Have a look at the article linked HERE to see how we are currently acquiring clients. Thank you!

*"Free Friday Walkthroughs" are available only in The Woodlands, TX on a first-come first-serve basis. Once we fill up our day, we won’t begin booking the next month until the day after that month's walkthrough.
**Priority will be given to projects that are larger scaled and involve the last finishing touches. We're always looking for projects where we are allowed to finish the project in a complete, photographable manner.
