It's a trend has been growing for some time now.
I see backsplashes that don’t have “insets” or picture framed areas with different, contrasting tiles, you know how they used to be framed in above a range or cooktop? What I see are backsplashes with tile that is an overall pattern, going all the way up to the ceiling, or even all over the wall.
It's so often that there are small appliances or containers on a counter that block your full view of a beautiful backsplash, so applying the same tile in a continuous pattern throughout the entire space of a wall, actually makes a lot a sense.
We're currently doing this in a kitchen remodel now....
We’ll be using open shelving and taking the subway tile all the way to the ceiling.
