I’ve always preferred a streamlined approach to design.
Maybe it was my background in architectural firms and the talented people around me who had a clean aesthetic that influenced me when I was a young designer. Maybe it was my Bachelor of Fine Art in Interior Design, as opposed to the usual Human Sciences department that interior design degrees seem to be located in these days.
I don’t know where my preference came from, but I find that I’m drawn to “simple” more and more each year.
And while I love all kinds of different styles, and I appreciate the nuances and effects they can have on an interior, I always prefer a cleaner, simpler version of those styles.
For me, they are more powerful. A lack of clutter in any style gets right to the point. It doesn’t pussyfoot around. It makes its statement and stands there proud, bold and dominant.
And I like that.
