Interior Design Assessment: How Do People Use Their Kitchens?

December 29, 2014 in Shopping, Designing

I’m about to head to Las Vegas for the amazing KBIS2015 show with ModenusBlogTour, where I will get to see, touch, and even taste food that has been prepared with some particularly amazing appliances.

If you will, please disregard your jealousy for a moment, because I need your help with something.

One thing the kitchen design industry has come to realize is…

People love their kitchens! They practically live in them.

The kitchen isn’t merely the room in the house where coffee is consumed.

People love their kitchens for cooking! (Imagine that! ;-)

They love them for cookie baking during Christmas; for four course gourmet meals on the weekends with friends; for homemade pizzas with the family; for teaching that young guy going off to college how to scramble an egg; for late night dinners being held warm for someone who’s not on everyone else’s schedule. (Yeah, you know that teenager who comes in late from practice and is always hungry.)

Anyway, like I said…

I need YOUR help because these appliance manufacturers are going to be asking me important questions that will impact what they build and design in the future!

They realize that I have a pulse on what my clients enjoy in their kitchens; that I know what’s popular in my area; and that I have a little bit of a handle on what is “in” with appliances these days.

However, I’d like to be even more resourceful for them. That’s why I’d like to know what you all think. I want as many responses as possible, so that I can give the best answers to their questions.

So, here’s what I need to know most:

How and what do you cook?
And what elements of design and performance best suit the ways you cook?

If you were designing your dream kitchen, what would you want most in terms of how you cook and how an appliance can help you in your dream kitchen?

Would you want a brand new steam oven? The fabulous European style coffee maker? Multiple ovens for your big holiday shindigs? An amazing wine frig to show off your spectacular wine collection? OR would you need a mega-size frig and freezer combination because everyone in your house raids the frig constantly and your huge-haul visits to Costco or Sam’s are just once a month?

Can you help me here?

Come on.  Influence the marketplace. Have some input. I promise I’ll share what you have to say. And when I hear their response, you’ll be the first to know what I’ve learned.

Thanks so much (in advance ;-).
