What is a blog without comments?
Without virtual friendships?
Is it just a blogger who's talking with themselves?
Chatting it up with the universe, just in case anyone is listening?
Well, based on personal experience, I can tell you: it’s not much.
I feel like there hasn't been much conversation on this blog since I opened it up.
I think it’s because I've been screwing around, installing different commenting systems. Each seemed to created a barrier, a blockade, a vault.
My readers couldn’t enter my home to chat for a while.
It was like the door was locked, and the big locksmith had to come and unlock the many virtual gates with different kinds of keys just so you could make a simple comment - geez.
You've e-mailed me! You've gone out of your way to let me know you're still reading, and that you would have rather let me know this via a comment, but the commenting system wouldn't let you.
And I HATED hearing that!
But I also kind of appreciated it ;-)
It showed that you cared: About this blog. About Me.
Commenting should be a quick and easy process. Even welcoming.
I mean . . . I’ve been blogging for about five years. I know the cardinal rule of blogging: Make commenting EASY.
This is why I feel your pain! For goodness sake, I know how much of a pain in the butt it can be!
If someone is going to take the time to read your blog (thank you, by the way ;-), your big, giant, self-indulgent blog where you talk about what YOU care about and then hope that someone else cares about it too, then for crying out loud...make it easy for them to give you a thumbs up!
An "Atta girl!" A "Yeah, me too!"
Sigh . . . Breathe . . . (Several times.)
And I soooo miss my blog friends. You are all amazing and insightful. I miss the interaction, your opinions, and your comments.
So, last week, I changed commenting systems, again, to one of the most popular systems on the planet. (...At least that's the word on the street.)
Unfortunately, though, the baby has to be thrown out with the bathwater when you change the system. When you take it down, all the comments you had . . . go with it.
And that saddens me. Because I treasured each and every one.
Sooooo, just so you know.
I didn't delete them.
While they may be gone from this site, they haven't left my heart. I read all of them and appreciated the effort it took to put them there.
And I treasure these virtual friendships as much as any. Because all of you are just as REAL to me as...
My neighbor. My client. My friend.
And some of you are all of the above.
I treasure you all because we share the same passion: DESIGN.
Thanks for reading.
From the bottom of my heart. ❤
