Okay, this is what I wanted to do when my daughter was in her last year or two of high school:
I wanted to cling onto her and make things special for her just a little bit longer.
But, you know, let’s be practical.
At that point, she’s almost out the door and you don’t want to blow too much money before she leaves. Because college is going to cost you a lot and she won’t be back that much anyway. Yes, that’s hard to hear, but it’s true. :-(
So, how can you spruce things up so that they feel fresh and up to date and she feels like she has a new room?
One where she can hang out with her friends, do homework, text and crawl the internet without you standing over her?
Here are a few touches you can add that will freshen up her space, get rid of the “little girl” look and make her feel like a brand new young woman!

Comfy ottoman - (to cover in clothes) well, at least when it’s laundry day you’ll be able to see it.
Desk / Table - Chances are she has a little girl bedroom suit with a tiny nightstand. Right? Get a simple table desk in a white parsons style with a big basket for her magazines and stuff. She can use that in an apartment later.
Desk Chair - A colorful, modern chair will give her room a trendy, cool vibe and bring in that hit of color that every girl needs.
Bedding - It’s probably time to get rid of the pepto pink and do something a little more up to date. We need a plain base with some pillows that have personality. And we all know Citrine is so popular now!
Lamp - Get a big girl lamp. Something colorful and glam. Something she could use in her first apartment. Cause she’ll be starting from scratch then.
Throw - Gotta have a little Anthropologie in there. How about a “quirky heirloom throw”. Crochet, of course.
There you go!
Now pull out the credit card and get it done so she can enjoy it BEFORE she heads out into the world.
