It’s the trendy thing to do these days:
Changing out the wood stair railing for iron.
It’s being done all over our neighborhoods around here.
The iron balusters, wood cap . . . You’ve seen it.
But, it’s not ALWAYS the RIGHT look for EVERY house.
In other words: Application of the trend, isn't always appropriate.
In a coastal style home, an iron railing like the one here, is pushing it.
A space with white, crisp traditional interiors with paneling and mouldings just doesn't make an iron railing feel quite at home. It just doesn't feel comfortable. It's not so happy to be there.
As a matter of fact, it creates some visual noise and doesn't really want to peacefully coexist. It's just a little too heavy and well....iron-y.
A classic is a classic. And classics are always right.
Don’t be afraid to do the expected, instead of the trend, instead of something new. Sometimes the traditional, the archetypal, the commonplace, the first thing that comes to mind . . . is perfect.
