Do you have a preference?
Do you match your nightstands and lamps on both sides of the bed, or no?
This could be a dilemma, no matter whether there are two people in the same bed or not.
Personally, I think both setups work. The one you choose could depend on the way your room is arranged. For instance:
It looks good to match your nightstand and lamps on both sides, IF:
Your bedroom has a long, blank wall for the bed
Your bedroom has some symmetrical architectural features like two matching windows or a central high window on that long wall.
Your bedroom has a curved or arched headboard, starting a rather symmetrical look that would be extended on out to the nightstands.
You just like a symmetrical look in your bedroom and there is room for two adequately scaled nightstands then, generally, it looks good to match your nightstands and lamps on both sides.
It’s not a good idea to match nightstands and lamps beside the bed, IF:
You don’t have a long wall for the bed. If the wall is barely big enough for two nightstands, then going with one larger and one smaller on the far side of the bed might be a good option.
Your bedroom has such a long wall for the bed that you might want to make one nightstand a desk, or chest, to fill up that wallspace.
Your bedroom typically sleeps only one person, two nightstands aren’t really necessary.
Your bedroom has some unique, asymmetrical architectural features that would dictate an asymmetrical look to the bed-wall.
Whatever your choice...
...let the size, shape and function of your room help you decide what’s best for you!
