Pantone’s 2017 Color of the Year announcement is coming up in December. I’ve been thinking about the color picks for the last few years and, well…
I’ve been a little underwhelmed by them.
I’m not much into pastels, unless accompanied by stronger color. So the 2016 COTY picks were rather too wispy to me.
Marsala, the 2015 pick, didn’t do much for interiors, imo. However, it was a great color for make-up and fall weddings; and I also loved how it was a deeper hue.
Now we’re almost upon the 2017 choice. And do you want to know what I think the pick will be?
Hunter Green. I predicted it a few years ago, and I still feel like I’m right on target.
We all know that interiors often follows fashion and, well, here’s what I’ve been seeing in the high end shops as I walk by the windows:
Apparently Hunter Green was on the runways at Fall Fashion Week in NYC:
I’m going all-in on this rich, Hunter Green color.
I’m completely drawn to it. It feels a bit retro and oh-so modern, all at the same time. And that kind of mix is in right now.
Memorial Antiques and Interiors in Houston has asked me to design their windows for November, and they said I can select a paint color for the back wall.
Guess what color I’m going with...
That’s right: a hunter green, called “Hunter Green“, by Benjamin Moore. :-)
They have lots of gray washed antiques and furnishings there that would stand out beautifully against that rich, green background. Gold or brass looks great, too, when combined with hunter green; so I’ll be picking up some of that metallic finish along with some black touches.
Because it’s fall, I can add in some rich fresh greens, combined with gray pumpkins, for a seasonal splash. I think this combo will make a dynamic and eye-catching window display for this time of year. I can’t wait to get started!
Did you see the vignette I created for Simpson’s Gallery this month?
If you have a special shop window or vignette where you’d like me to display some of your special products for sale, and also write about the process on my blog, I’m all ears! I love a good collab of talents and pretty things. :-)
OH, AND BY THE WAY...
