I love the idea of layering rugs in a room. They solve so many problems:
The sea grass, sisal, or other textural rug becomes the perfect edge banding, or the framing, for the “art” on the floor.
It’s the perfect way to make a rug that’s too small for a space appear to fit in the room.
It’s the perfect way to add in some texture while keeping color and pattern on the floor.
It’s the perfect way to add a little more softness and a casual feeling to room.
