The moment I walk into someone's home I immediately begin taking mental notes of their surroundings.
Before you assume why, I assure you it's not so I can judge their design style. I do it so I can introduce myself to who they are at home, which is oftentimes different from the person we've become familiar with in public.
You know, they say you can tell a lot about a person based on whether they're a Rolling Stones or Beatles fan. Well I believe the same principle applies to a person's style preferences. And I'm sure all of you feel the same way, but be honest...
How often do you make a conscious effort to let a friend's interior tell you their life story? My guess: Not as often as you should.
You may think you know someone inside and out, but it's likely you're only aware of their exterior. This is why it's such a privilege to be invited into someone's house. Because once you enter, you're then a part of their comfort zone, the place they've designed to accomodate their every need and remind them of their every passion. It's their home. The place where their heart is. So love it deeply by taking mental note of all that it's made of.
