Having guests for the holidays? Your parents? Your grown children?
Your mother-in-law?
You've already spruced up your dining room, now it's time to address your guest room!
Designing a comfortable, up-to-date bedroom doesn’t have to be expensive! After all, people will only be staying there a few days, right? It doesn’t need to wear like iron or last forever.
It does, however, need to be pretty and fresh and welcoming. :-)

Pillows
I’m absolutely smitten with Candice Olson’s Zuma fabric from Kravet. In fact, I'm SO smitten that I’ve handmade some pillows to sell in my DESIGNED Shop, and they're the inspiration for this guest room's design.
The pillows feature a neutral, taupe and white palette, with some textural interest, as well as a lovely treillage pattern that's repeated in the pillows and mirrors. It’s neither feminine nor masculine, but it is light, comfortable, and fresh.
Burlap Headboard
This headboard from Target is a real deal and soooo on trend now. Burlap? Nailheads? Perfect!
Fieldcrest Luxury Egyptian Cotton Sheet Set
Next, some plain white sheets and pillowcases. Something about crisp, white bedding just feels so clean and fresh.
Bedding
Now for some texture, this linen duvet cover and matching shams from West Elm are perfect paired with the duvet from Target.
Matelasse
I love using matelasse on a bed. It can be very economical but has such a quality, boutique hotel kind of look. A nice contrast to the texture of the linen. We’ll use it in the skirt and as an extra blanket on top of the bed in a crisp white.
End Table
Okay, the bed is made. How about the bedside tables? We don’t need a lot of storage because no one is living in here full time. These West Elm side tables work well with our palette and the shape repeats the pattern in the pillow fabric. Love the wood finish and for that price, we can have two!
Lamps
Now for some nice lighting for bedtime reading when Grandma has to take a break from those little urchins running around the house! What a great deal on these and I love that we’re bringing in a bit of sparkle with the mirror finish. The burlap shade is the perfect contrast on top.
Mirrors
Two of these, each behind the bedside lamps will extend the size of the room and reflect the light of the lamp. I love how the design repeats the pattern in the pillows.
Antler Wreath
Faux antlers are so hot now, why not go with a little trend? And wreaths feel so welcoming I think. One, above the bed.....just right. (Maybe you can catch a sale!)
Ottoman
An ottoman at the end of the bed is great for a suitcase and so handy for guests. I love the darker turned legs here and the neutral stripe doesn’t fight with our treillage pattern.
White Dresser
Okay, let’s go really budget-conscience here. This doesn’t have to be big. Something for overnight guests is all that’s needed. A small, plain white dresser with a little cottage style fits the bill.
Sepia framed botanical prints
Some subtle, pretty art for the walls from Suzanne Kasler for above the dresser.
Tufted side chair
This is the cutest chair. I’ve seen it at World Market in person. Love the little touch of personality with the buttons in bright patterned fabrics. It makes a great spot to change the shoes or flip through a magazine at night. Having a chair in a guest room is such a nice touch. And the brass lamp beside it and garden stool beside it complete the corner.
Seagrass Rug
If you have wood floors, a seagrass rug would be nice in here.
