I’m all for a custom designed bedroom that’s complete with custom bedding.
I design these for clients. And I’m doing another one now that is going to be remarkable! We just installed the custom bed last week!
Sometimes going all custom stretches your budget a bit too far, though, and not everyone has that kind of luxury. So today I’m sharing a tip with you on how to create a beautiful bedroom that feels like a boutique hotel.
I’ve shared one trick before on my blog about how to not go over-the-top with custom bedding. It explains where to splurge and go custom and where to save. It’s sort of a half-custom / half-retail type of look.
However, if you just can’t do any big splurge with custom bedding and you have maybe a wood frame bed with a headboard and footboard so that you don’t need a skirt (because I’m still a firm believer in a custom bedskirt), here’s a great way to dress the bed:
Do it in white.
White sheets, white duvet cover, and white shams — all of which are in sheeting fabric — will save you from having to do custom.
It provides you with a clean, soft backdrop for any kind of pillows, accent blanket, or wall color. And it creates a boutique hotel type look. Although it’s white and might show soil from a dog or whatever, at least you can throw it in the wash and have it come out fresh.
I recently found a great duvet cover and shams package at Ikea that looks custom and rich. It’s linen, so it has an upgraded look. I’m using them on duvets in my son’s old room that is now a guest room. I’ll be sharing that full redo when my daughter comes home this fall to photograph it for me. (Btw: It’s so nice to have a photographer in the family. I just wish she still lived here!)
Now let's take a look at a few lovely examples of how white bedding can inspire boutique-style!
