When I remodeled my kitchen last fall I, basically, remodeled my breakfast room, too.
It’s the same open space, and it received the same flooring and paint. However, I previously had a breakfast table that I’ve had since my kids were little. Over the years, it had been repainted, refinished, and even sections of the base where my dog had chewed on it had been cut off, sanded down and modified. It was time for something new, so I went with a round table that really fit the space better.
I longed for some more comfy chairs. And I also pulled in some metal shelving I had in another room. I am using those for some favorite cookbooks and magazines, as well as my orchids and bromeliads. (I always buy some for photoshoots and try to keep them alive, hoping they’ll bloom again.) I have lots of windows and light there, as it opens up to my backyard that I designed myself. We get hummingbirds in the summer, and I usually put feeders out directly in front of those windows so we can watch them. It’s a happy, private place, and I’m looking forward to getting a laptop so I can spend early mornings right in this spot. That’s my best and favorite time to write.
I’m not ready to reveal the kitchen and breakfast room yet. But we’ve got the new table, now; and my husband is going to be painting and finishing it. My carpenter built it for me and did a beautiful job. :-)
Today, I’ve got a breakfast room design for you that is similar to what I’ve got going on in my house.
I love how it’s graphic, textural, simple, and easy to live with. I’ve gone with some selections that would please me, if I was starting from scratch — something that speaks to my style of “bold, livable, fresh”.
